Windsurf becomes Devin Desktop: consolidation speeds up

The move is telling: an agent company, Cognition, absorbed an IDE, Windsurf, not the other way round. The editor was renamed Devin Desktop in June 2026.

Quality tooling gathers around agents

Also in 2026, Sonar acquired Gitar, bringing AI code review into its verification tools. Software quality is reorganising around the agent workflow.

Why it makes sense

45% of AI-generated code contains known vulnerabilities (Veracode, 2026). Verifying, tracing and being able to roll back what an agent produces matters as much as generating the code.
